From our Head of Roses Department, Ishai Sharon’s perspective, the flower market is under pressure. Therefore, you can see a lot of activities and new ideas coming up in order to find other directions so as to try to and get through this difficult period.
The market during the previous weeks was not good, especially compared to last year when the price was about 10% lower. The roses quantity on the clock was not high. However, around the clock by different web shops and direct sales, the quantity was very high.
On Friday 16th November 2018, the price dropped dramatically. Ishai explains that the reason for this was that the roads in France were blocked by trucks because of a strike, and almost zero supply was directed to this big market. “Let’s see if on Monday the prices will improve,” Ishai says.
The weather in Europe is getting colder, around zero degrees and the green weeks are getting close. We hope that there will be demand for at least one more week.
From Kenya, the supply is going down especially for red roses. This is due to the fact that because of the planning for Christmas and Valentine’s Day. Also the supply from Ethiopia is lower because of the cold season.
“Let’s hope that with smaller quantity the market will still keeps stable until the sales for the Christmas,” Ishai concludes.
The Royal FloraHolland Trade Fair 2018
The Royal FloraHolland Trade Fair 2018 took place on 7th – 9th November at Aalsmeer and the F. Optimal Connection team had such a fabulous time.According to our Head of Roses Department, Ishai Sharon, The Floraholland Trade Fair was generally very busy and fruitfully for the F. Optimal team.
This year we as Optimal Connection decided not to have a stand, but instead give more time and attention to our clients. As Ishai states, “The team which included Managing Director Shmulik Kedem, Head of Sales Jan Renting and myself, had the opportunity to spend more time interacting with the visitors and were more flexible enough to move around without without being stuck to one stand. After evaluating our experience at the trade fair, we found that we were indeed more efficient and succeeded to have more meetings and better results compared to other years.”
