Christmas is only a few days away, and we can already summarize the sales and look forward to the next close period. Traditionally the Christmas sales were mainly focused on red & white roses and less on other colored roses.
As supermarkets selling mostly greens and decorations, big quantities of roses from this segment which are short roses with smaller head-sizes were offered on the clock and on web shops in Holland at relatively lower prices. The higher segment was better and the right colors (no pink) still got good prices.
For red roses, the price was good and stable for the last 10 days and the supply offer was also good (big quantity for the early export demand days, and less for the close and local market sells later).
In the last 3 days we have even seen lower quantities of red roses; partly because growers were afraid to send and partly end of the flush. We expect that for next Tuesday (Since auction is closed Monday) there will be good market and then followed by 3 days of lower prices.
In January, we are expecting good price special for red and white roses. A lot of production is focused in line with valentines day and women’s day. It is at this time that any grower will be preparing big flush. I recommend to send all lengths of those 2 colors.
Our calendar starts off in earnest come 2017. On the end of week 2 and week 3, we plan to visit Kenya, summarize season 2016, plan for valentines day and women’s day, plan direct deals, discuss on varieties, and much more.
I will close the visit program very soon. I wish you all happy holidays and a healthy and successful 2017.
