For this week, Ishai Sharon, Head of Roses Department with F.Optimal Connection reports that there was a major decline in market prices for all flowers between Monday 30th October and Wednesday 1st November respectively. According to him, the low prices during this period affected all the Red roses, the Short length Roses and the Athena Rose variety.
As Ishai points out to the team, the high demand for flowers that had been occasioned by the All Saints holiday on the 1st of November had come to an end. However, he is happy to note that Germany will be having a two day vacation on Wednesday 1st November and Thursday 2nd November. He adds that quite often the German nationals tend to connect these two days together with the coming weekend hence creating an extended vacation in their country. Consequently, Ishai reports to the team that the market has already started to get big offers for very large quantities of flowers on the different big web shops. This trend is even being experienced from growers who in normal days are not in the markets.
In November, the demand for cut flowers in the market is very low. This low demand according to Ishai was also witnessed in Supermarkets. Ishai noted that supermarkets are using more greens and other products for decoration. He further adds, “Unfortunately the supply in direct deals for all supermarkets slumped considerably with all growers of Small Roses and the Short Length Segment being affected.”
In conclusion, Ishai, in his expert view, advice’s all growers to be patient and wait for the sales that will be taking place on Friday 3rd November, because most people in Europe will be coming back from vacation. In the mean time he recommends that all growers should not to send 40 cm short lengths and they should also limit their red rose quantities to 50 cm in length. Ishai states, “November is always a difficult period; however I am very hopeful that this problem will only be for a very short time and the market will then pick up for all growers.”
From the F.Optimal connection team, we wish all growers all the best in the coming month.
