It has been a very active two weeks since our last review, and we’re glad to have the Head of Roses Department, Ishai Sharon, breaking down the market’s performance from his expert view.
Ishai begins by informing us that on the last 2 weeks of the year, 11 and 12, the market prices were much higher compare to the last year, 2017.

Weather Forecast
According to Ishai’s observation, the main reason for the extreme high prices, compared to 2017 on the same weeks, is the long rainy weather with heavy showers, colder temperature and almost no sun in Kenya. This phenomenon caused low production.
The supply from Ethiopia was also not high due to the problems I mentioned on the last review (not enough labor and weather conditions).
The weather in Europe was cold and local production after Valentine’s Day and Women’s Day was especially lower. “Also we can feel that the positive economic situation in Europe and an increase in demand, which contributed to the good results,” Ishai affirms.
In the close weekend is the Easter holiday in Europe and the auction will be closed on Monday 2nd April. Germany and a few other parts of Europe will be also closed on Good Friday on the 30th of March.
We expect lower prices for the next days and weeks, which according to Ishai is normal for this period. “I recommend to send only top quality and to check which varieties/lengths are not profitable,” Ishai states, “If not, it’s better not to send for short period.”
Mother’s Day Sales
Ishai is positive that we should expect that towards the sales of the 1st of May the market will have improved and that will start the sales of the Mother’s Day in Holland, Germany and Central of Europe on the 13th of May.
Generally the month of May is supposed to be good with high demand for flowers. Later on the 26th will be the Polish Mother’s Day and on the 27th of May is France’s Mother Day.
“Let’s hope the that the close period will surprise us again and the market price will be reasonable,” Ishai concludes.
